JAGS CHORAL SOCIETY

Past JCS concerts

Summer Term 2024/25
Mozart
Coronation Mass
Music Director: Tommy Foster
Thank you for everyone’s hard work not only in the concert itself but also the build up. Our collective aim is to make fantastic music together. To a large degree we achieved that on Sunday. The watching was better (although plenty of room for improvement) and the sound projected well (it is not an easy venue to sing in). There were some great moments, in particular I thought the Sanctus had a sense of line that we haven’t always achieved. The Gloria was exciting and the piece came together very securely in the Dona Nobis. The Regina Coeli was also as good as we have ever sung it, it made a great concert opener. In terms of reflecting on what we could do better; we need to be 100% sure of the words, particularly in movements when they come thick and fast (every setting of a Credo will have this issue) and a few moments were let down by incorrect placing of consonants, which is a shame as it is something we worked so hard on. I know it’s tough to attend every rehearsal, however what we do is a collective effort and greatness is achieved as a unit, together. I look forward to the Autumn term. Spring Term 2024/25 Concert
Bernstein
Chichester Psalms
Music Director: Tommy Foster
Tommy says: I was very impressed with the choir yesterday. Watching was far improved and aside from a couple of minor moments, it felt amazingly solid. Having a brilliant organist helped. The ending, in particular of the Chichester Psalms was stunning. The silence was deafening, as they say. This was one of our best performances.
